Civil Litigation

You have made all reasonable efforts to resolve a dispute with someone. You have talked to them, sent letters, contacted your lawyers and they have sent letters, and still you have not received an adequate response or solved the dispute. What next? Often times, the next step is to begin a lawsuit—civil litigation.

Civil Litigation is a legal dispute between two or more parties that seek monetary damages or specific performance rather than criminal sanctions. Civil Litigation can be divided into seven stages: investigation, discovery, pre-trial, settlement and appeal. Not every lawsuit passes through each stage of litigation; most lawsuits are settled prior to trial and many cases that reach a trial verdict are not appealed.
